Brutal Resilience

| 2022-2023 |

This project explores concepts of identity, femininity, and representation. In these photographs, I face the camera, but my hair, tied in a ponytail, obscures my face. Women’s hair is a potent symbol of repression in my homeland, where the hijab is mandatory. By tying my hair, I convey a sense of suffocation. These images in concrete settings, work to challenge the symbols of control and subjugation, emphasizing the struggles women face today.  These rugged locations with harsh textures are intentionally selected to suggest the feeling of being trapped. In this way, I whisper my resistance.
